Minor soft-tissue surgery covers small procedures on the skin and the tissue beneath it. Suitable cases are done as a day case under local anaesthetic.

• Small lumps, cysts and other limited lesions may be suitable
• You are assessed to confirm that a minor procedure is enough
• The visit is planned so you can leave once you are comfortable

Local anaesthetic for suitable minor cases

Local anaesthetic numbs the area for the procedure. It is used when the lesion and your health make that approach appropriate.

• The area is numbed so the procedure can be tolerated
• Not every soft-tissue problem is suitable for local anaesthetic alone
• You are told what you will feel and that numbness wears off afterwards

Follow-up after minor soft-tissue surgery

Aftercare is usually simple: a dressing, a wound check and a result if tissue was sent. Stitches are reviewed if they were used.

• Advice covers the dressing and ordinary care of the area
• A stitch review is arranged only when stitches need removal
• Pathology, if requested, is explained when it is back
