Buccal Fat and Cheek Width

Bichectomy removes the buccal fat pads that sit in the lower cheek. Reducing that fat can narrow the mid-face and make the cheekbone and jawline easier to see.

• The pad is reached through a small incision inside the mouth.
• Only the fat that is agreed in advance is taken.
• Skin is not removed; the change comes from the volume under it.

Not Suitable for Every Face

This operation is not for everyone. If the face is already lean, or if fullness is mostly skin, bone or a masseter muscle, removing buccal fat can hollow the cheek instead of defining it.

Contour After Fat Pad Removal

Surgery is performed under anaesthesia. Swelling inside the cheek can hide the slimming at first. The contour is judged later, once the internal swelling has gone.

• Mouth rinses and a soft diet are usual while the inner incision heals.
• Asymmetry of the pads, if present, is noted so removal is not identical by habit.
• Follow-up reviews the cheek line and the intraoral wound.
