About the treatment
Setting Back Prominent Ears
Otoplasty repositions ears that stand out from the head. The goal is a natural set-back, so the ears are less prominent without looking pinned flat.
- The angle between the ear and the head is measured on each side.
- Both ears are compared, because symmetry is rarely perfect before surgery.
- The antihelical fold and the conchal bowl are assessed as separate causes of prominence.
Cartilage Shape and Position
Cartilage may be sutured into a softer fold, or the bowl of the ear may be set back. The skin incision is usually hidden behind the ear.
- Permanent or long-lasting sutures hold the new cartilage shape.
- Scoring is used only when the cartilage will not fold with sutures alone.
- Skin is not relied on to hold the ear back.
Balance From the Side View
Surgery is performed under anaesthesia. A bandage protects the ears at first, and contact sports are delayed. The aim is a balanced side profile rather than identical ears.
- Dressings and the length of headband wear are explained before you leave.
- You are told how to sleep so the ears are not folded forward.
- Follow-up checks position, symmetry and the scar behind the ear.
Otoplasty at Estecenter in Istanbul repositions prominent ears with the aim of a natural set-back, not a pinned look.
