Donor area
The band of hair at the back and sides that supplies the grafts.
The horseshoe of permanent hair around the back and sides of the head. Its density and quality set the ceiling on any transplant: a plan can only ever move what the donor area can safely give up without becoming visibly thin itself. This is why a donor assessment matters more than the size of the bald area.
