DHT (dihydrotestosterone)
The hormone that drives pattern hair loss.
A derivative of testosterone produced by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. In genetically susceptible follicles DHT shortens the growth phase and shrinks the follicle a little with each cycle. Follicles at the back and sides of the head are not sensitive to it, which is exactly why hair taken from there keeps growing once transplanted.
