A transplant moves hair; it does not create it. The donor area decides what is possible.

| Do you smoke or vape? | Smoking has to stop at least four weeks before and four weeks after surgery. This is not negotiable for procedures that rely on skin flaps healing. |
| Do any of these apply to you? | Your medical history needs review by the anaesthetist before this is booked. Most conditions are manageable; they just have to be known in advance. |
| Do any of these apply to you? | Blood thinners need a managed pause arranged with the doctor who prescribed them, before a date can be set. |
| Do any of these apply to you? | See your own doctor about the untreated condition first. Elective surgery should not come before a diagnosis. |
| How is the hair at the back and sides of your head? | A thin donor area limits how much hair can be moved, and diffuse thinning at the back can mean a transplant is not the right answer at all. A density measurement settles it. |
