A checklist of questions to ask a clinic

You cannot assess a surgeon's technique from a website. You can assess how a clinic answers direct questions, and that correlates better than the photographs do.

About the surgeon

  • Who specifically will perform the operation, and can I see their registration number?
  • Will the surgeon be present for the whole procedure, or only part of it?
  • How many of this exact operation do they perform in a year?

About the price

  • What is not in this price?
  • If a second session or a revision is needed, what does it cost?
  • What happens to the price if the plan changes on the day?

About what could go wrong

  • What are the three most common complications of this procedure here, and how often do they happen?
  • If something goes wrong after I fly home, who treats me and who pays?
  • Is there insurance, and what does it actually cover?

How to read the answers

Specific answers with numbers are a good sign. Reassurance without numbers is not. A clinic that will not put the surgeon's name in writing before you pay a deposit is telling you something important.
