Rinoplastia recovery, day by day
What happens after Rinoplastia, from the procedure itself to the day the result is final. Everything here is what we tell our own patients, in the order they need to hear it.

The timeline
Days are counted from the procedure. Where a range is normal, the earlier end is shown — ask your surgeon before taking it as the date.
-
Day 0 · Procedure
Surgery day
Two to three hours under general anaesthetic, followed by one night in hospital. A splint is taped over the bridge.
-
Day 1 · Check-up
Discharge
You go back to the hotel. Sleep with your head raised on two pillows and apply cold compresses to the cheeks, not the nose.
-
Day 3 · Daily care
Swelling peaks
Bruising around the eyes is at its worst around day two or three, then fades quickly.
-
Day 7 · Check-up
Splint removal
The splint and any internal supports come off at the clinic. This is the first time you see the new shape.
-
Day 8 · Travel
Safe to fly home
Fly after the splint has been removed and the surgeon has checked you.
-
Day 10 · Work
Back to desk work
Most bruising is coverable with makeup by now.
-
Day 14 · Daily care
Bruising gone
Visible bruising has cleared. Taping at night may continue for a few more weeks.
-
Day 21 · Exercise
Light exercise
Walking and light cardio. Nothing that raises blood pressure sharply.
-
Day 42 · Exercise
Contact sport and glasses
Six weeks before glasses rest on the bridge again, or any sport where the nose could be struck.
-
Day 180 · Result
Swelling mostly settled
Around 80 per cent of the swelling has resolved. The tip is always the last area to settle.
-
Day 365 · Result
Final shape
The definitive result. Thick skin can take up to eighteen months.
Recovery varies between people. Smoking, diabetes, how big the case was and how carefully the aftercare is followed all move these dates, usually later rather than earlier.
How long to stay in Istanbul
The package allows 6 nights, which covers the procedure, the checks and the final review before you fly. Staying one extra day is the cheapest insurance against a flight that gets moved.
