The timeline
Days are counted from the procedure. Where a range is normal, the earlier end is shown — ask your surgeon before taking it as the date.
-
Day 0 · Procedure
Surgery day
Four to six hours under general anaesthetic, with two nights in hospital. Drains are placed and a support garment is fitted.
-
Day 2 · Check-up
Drains removed
Drains come out before discharge and the dressing is changed.
-
Day 7 · Check-up
Stitches removed
Sutures in front of the ear come out; those in the hairline follow a few days later.
-
Day 10 · Travel
Safe to fly home
Travel after the second review, usually around day ten.
-
Day 21 · Work
Back to work
Most people take three weeks before being seen in public without makeup.
-
Day 28 · Exercise
Light exercise
Walking from week one; the gym from week four.
-
Day 90 · Result
Swelling resolved
Numbness around the ears and jaw settles over the same period.
-
Day 365 · Result
Final result
Scars have paled and the contour is settled.
Recovery varies between people. Smoking, diabetes, how big the case was and how carefully the aftercare is followed all move these dates, usually later rather than earlier.
How long to stay in Istanbul
The package allows 8 nights, which covers the procedure, the checks and the final review before you fly. Staying one extra day is the cheapest insurance against a flight that gets moved.
