Where to Stay in Istanbul for Treatment

The instinct is to book somewhere central and famous. After surgery that instinct is wrong. Sultanahmet is beautiful and it is also forty-five minutes of traffic away from the clinic, up and down hills, on cobbled streets. You will make that journey at least three times.

Şişli and Nişantaşı

The clinic is in Şişli, and this is where our treatment packages place patients. Nişantaşı next door is calm, flat, walkable and full of cafés and pharmacies. Transfers take five to ten minutes. If you are travelling alone, this is the answer.

Levent and Etiler

Fifteen minutes north, quieter and more residential, with larger hotel rooms for the same money. Good if you are travelling with family and want space rather than nightlife.

Taksim and Beyoğlu

Twenty minutes away and lively until late. Fine before your procedure, less comfortable after it: the streets are steep, crowded and loud.

Sultanahmet and Kadıköy

Visit them. Do not stay in them during a treatment week. Sultanahmet is across the city, and Kadıköy is on the Asian side, which means a ferry or a bridge for every appointment.

What to actually check before booking

• A lift — several Istanbul buildings still do not have one
• Blackout curtains, because you will be sleeping propped up and at odd hours
• A pharmacy within walking distance
• Room service or a supermarket downstairs, for the days you would rather not go out
